Spirit Doll (Cazimi) is a tattoo artist primarily working in handpoke, whose practice moves through ritual, intuition and play. Working predominantly in black, red or single colours, his tattoos draw from abstract, ignorant and minimalist styles; sitting somewhere between primitive futurism, dream logic tattooing and devotional mark-making. Tattoos for the feelers, the dreamers, the creatures within.
His work lives where the ignorant meets the sacred. Symbols, text, creatures and marks are created not to be explained, but felt. Intentionally raw, simple and fluid linework allows designs to stay open, breathing and alive rather than fixed or polished. There is a reverence for the mess, the humour, the journey of life and what lies underneath.
The imagery often carries soft chaos and tender darkness, playful, feral and charged. Goofy figures, naive marks and childlike scribbles sit alongside something more primal. Recurring motifs include creatures, cats, humanoid forms, portals, spirals, cracks, sigils, sexual references and dream-like images emerging from spaces of memory, fantasy and transformation.
For Spirit Doll, tattooing is a meditative energy exchange. He prefers to work with his own designs, as they hold spiritual significance, but is open to collaboration; meeting your ideas and seeing what wants to emerge together. Each session is guided by what the body and the moment call for.
Beyond tattooing, Spirit Doll is a multidimensional creative creature; artist, performance artist, performer, dancer, model and world-builder. His background spans fine art, performance art, drag, burlesque, dance, collective creation and space-holding. He is currently training in circus, continuing to explore movement, risk and embodiment. Everything he lives and experiences feeds directly into the symbols, forms, shapes and drawings that surface in his tattoo work.
Spirit Doll is also one half of the performance and artist duo Mastolf and Mastej, known as the freaky goth hun twins. Together they create immersive performances, sensory creatures to adopt from their orphanage, wearable artworks, host events, and run The Others’ Market; Hastings’ alternative market founded in 2023, a space dedicated to the wonderful, the weird and the in-between.
Spirit Doll’s tattoos are symbols to carry, creatures to keep, and playful spells for the skin, living somewhere between devotion, mischief and transformation.
